Financial Assistance Programs

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief society (NMCRS) offers a variety of financial assistance programs for active duty and retired service members and their families. In addition, the society helps families pursue higher education by providing grants and/or interest free loans to those who qualify.

Scholarship awards are given solely on the basis of the applicant's financial need. The Vice Admiral E.P. Travers Scholarship assists dependent children of active duty or retired service members and spouses of active duty service members wishing to pursue undergraduate studies. The scholarship provides students who qualify up to $2000 per academic year.

NOTE:
Financial Aid Websites

Bob Berkley, Manager of Reference Publications & MCNet at Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) released a statement to all MCNet subscribers regarding the Free Application for Federal Financial Student Aid. DANTES recommends only the U.S. Department of Education's web site, http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/, for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA). This site allows individuals to file an electronic application FREE.

FEE CHARGED FOR THE WEBSITE BELOW:

DANTES found that the web sites, http://www.fafsa.com/ and http://www.fafsa.org, while not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Education or the FAFSA on the web site, offer FAFSA filing for a fee.
