K-Bay and Manana Housing Offer Outstanding Club Facilities and Programs

Outstanding facilities, incredible programs, and energetic staff make the Boys and Girls Clubs (Teen Center) located at K-Bay and at the Manana Housing Center the place to be for base youth ages 10-18. Both facilities are chartered Boys and Girls Clubs and offer national programs such as Power Hour, a monitored homework completion program, Triple Play, a supervised outdoor sports program, Youth of the Year, Keystone and Torch Clubs, and other character building programs.

The K-Bay Club is located in building 1090, behind Papa John’s Pizza. Boasting 3500 square feet, this facility features ping-pong, air hockey, pool tables, foosball, supervised internet access, and the latest video games including Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox. An outdoor basketball court is located nearby.

The Manana Housing Club is smaller in size but offers the same features as well as having outdoor basketball and tennis courts.
In addition to these programs, the Clubs organize and have special activities and events. Dances, trips to the Ice Palace, Hawaiian Waters, Kaneohe Bay Sandbar, and other local attractions are offered throughout the year. Pool, ping-pong, video game tournaments, movie nights and more also occur on a regular basis.

Base youth ages 10-18 are free to drop in anytime after school Monday nthrough Friday until 8:00 p.m. at K-Bay and until 7:30 p.m. at Manana. The only cost is an annual $25 CYTP membership.

Students attending Mokapu Elementary are also encouraged to sign up for the School to Club program where staff will accompany them from Mokapu Elementary over to the Club after school.

No, it's not a day care. That's probably the biggest misconception that many teens and base families have. The Club does not force members to remain at the facility for any length of time--the kids are free to come and go as they please.

What differentiates The Club with other teen centers is the introduction and implementation of the Power Hour, and the many field trips taken off the base. The Power Hour is a designated time set during the after-school hours for members to complete homework.

The Club is open after school from 2 - 7 p.m. and Fridays from 2 - 8 p.m. During the monthly teen meetings, topics discussed include planning future field trips, leadership development and enhancing self-esteem. The Club journeys to shopping malls, various beaches, movie theaters and museums.

More than a hut which houses air-hockey, a pool table, video games, a giant TV and computers, The Club is fundamentally a sanctuary that base teens can retreat, escape and gather to develop a sense of who they are as individuals and to enrich relationships with other teens.
